Just got back from a day of sales calls in Peoria and Bloomington, Illinois. Found a lot of people interested in what we are doing and even more people excited about what comes out of the bottle. People tend to be very happily suprised with our vodka- I think it must be the expectation of yet another vodka out in the market. I'd like to think that ours has more personality than most.
Which brings me to a cocktail that I have been making quite a few of in the last week- The Vodka Cobbler. The cobbler has an interesting history and makes for really nice cocktails using local ingredients. Toby Malony of The Violet Hour was kind enough to share with me his Cobbler recipe. At the Violet Hour, they refer to the Cobbler as the "roast chicken" as it is the default drink that people order when they are scared of everything else on the menu. Don't let that turn you away, its good stuff!
The Vodka Cobbler
2 oz Death's Door Vodka
1 oz Lillet Blonde
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
handful of fresh berries (Blueberries, raspberries, cherries, etc)
put all ingredients in an ice filled shaker, mix back and forth between two shakers, mixing and cooling the contents without destroying the berries. Pour entire contents into a tall glass, add a couple drops of lemon bitters and garnish with a lemon wheel and a single berry.
Another option is to shake all vigourously, strain and garnish.
